Christina Belk – Office Manager
Christina manages our front office, oversees human resources for our team, and serves as Patient Care Coordinator. It is her job to make sure our patients have all of the information they need for as long as they’re with us. She schedules patients for surgery, and assists them with the financial end of their care.
Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Christina relocated to Texas 9 years ago – first to the Austin area and then to Houston. She began working with patients in a dermatology practice, where she spent six years, acquiring a license as a Medical Assistant along the way. She did laser procedures, offered skin rejuvenation treatments and eventually supervised the practice’s medical assistants in two separate locations. She then accepted a position assisting patients in a plastic surgery office, where she worked for one year. Prior to joining Dr. Basu, she was the office manager and patient care coordinator for Dr. Sugene Kim.
“What I like best about my work is being with our patients – helping them with information and support as they achieve their goals. We serve patients who desire cosmetic surgery and also many who come to Dr. Basu for breast reconstruction. I always keep in mind the reality that we see patients every day, but our patients don’t come here every day. No matter what, it’s a significant experience for each of them, so I want them to know what to expect, and to know that they are in great hands. Dr. Basu is deeply committed to his patients and makes himself accessible and available to them at all times. I want our patients to know right from the moment they first come to see us that we have a great staff and that we’re all about staying with our patients all the way through – and even after – their recovery process. ”

Veronica Mejia – Insurance Specialist
While many of our patients come to us solely for cosmetic procedures, we also have a large number of patients seeking reconstructive surgery. In order to handle the complexities of insurance coding, pre-certification and appeals, we are fortunate to have the expertise of Veronica. She has many years of experience with the insurance and billing end of the practice. Bilingual and detail-oriented, she is responsible for coding, seeking reimbursement from third party payers, and doing what needs to be done to assist our patients with this aspect of their care.
Veronica was born in Honduras, living there until she relocated to New York City with her family when she was 12 years old. She has been in Houston for the past 21 years, and has 20 years of experience in the medical field.
“Here in Dr. Basu’s practice, I code operating reports, follow up on paperwork and appeals for insurance reimbursement on behalf of our patients, and make sure they are pre-certified before their scheduled surgeries. I’m a Certified Insurance Specialist and our patients know that I’m people oriented and that I am always ready to answer their insurance and billing questions. It’s my favorite part of the work I do – advising patients, helping those who don’t have insurance secure the best coverage, and interpreting their policies to them so that they understand the fine print. I know the ins and outs of the insurance companies and how they work, and I am willing to fight for patient rights whenever I need to so that our patients don’t have to worry about that part of the process.”
Veronica points out that Dr. Basu is very detail-oriented and watches carefully over each patient’s care and each staff member’s level of expertise. “Our office is up-to-date and Dr. Basu has done training with each of us. He teaches us what he wants us to know and then enables us to work independently to get the job done right. He’s never more than a phone call or email away – very responsive and easy to talk to. He’s also a patient doctor, who makes himself available to every patient, and to each staff member, too. I’m fortunate to be able to work here, helping patients and working with a group.
