Lip enhancement can plump and volumize the lips, creating results that look and feel natural, soft and smooth. Non surgical lip augmentation procedures may be the perfect solution for women with naturally thin lips or whose lips have thinned due to age.
Texas board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bob Basu is highly experienced in performing both surgical and non surgical enhancements for the face and body. His extensive training in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures combined with his sensitive approach to each person’s needs make him a top surgeon in the greater Houston area.

Why Consider Lip Enhancement?
Many people who consider getting lip augmentation have:
- Lips that have always been thin due to genetics
- Lips that have thinned out as a result of age or smoking
- Lips that are already full but would like more definition
- To correct an asymmetry between the top and bottom lip
How Much Does Lip Augmentation Cost?
The cost of lip enhancement varies per practice and and depends on whether you would like one or both lips augmented. Your total costs will include the price of the product and charges related to your injection appointment.
Your Lip Enhancement Options
If you’ve decided to move forward with lip augmentation, you’ll have several choices to make about your procedure.
Surgical or Non-Surgical
Many people use injectables like JUVÉDERM® to shape and add volume to their lips, which offers instant lip enhancement results without surgery. These products act as a kind of injectable liquid lip implant.
Some people prefer lip enhancement using fat injections. This option involves harvesting fat from another location on the body through liposuction surgery and injecting the fat into the lips for a more voluminous appearance.
Top or Bottom Lip
Most people who get lip enhancement have their bottom lip augmented, although some people may choose to have both the top and bottom lip enhanced. Having only the top lip augmented is uncommon, since the top lip is not as prone to thinning as the bottom.
Lip Filler Options
Lip filler products most commonly used for lip injections are made of either hyaluronic acid (HA), collagen or an individual’s own fat tissue. Collagen injections in the lips can produce great results, but some people have allergies to bovine-derived collagen products, and these results typically last only 1 to 2 months. Fat injections for lip augmentation can provide longer-lasting results.
At Basu Plastic Surgery, our preferred filler for lip injections is JUVÉDERM® because it has a reputation for being a very smooth filler product that is easy to inject and can achieve very soft lip enhancement results.
Your Lip Enhancement Treatment
Lip fillers take about 15 to 20 minutes to inject, making this an easy “lunchtime” treatment. The latest formulations of JUVÉDERM® contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which allows for a comfortable procedure without a staged series or additional anesthesia. We may use ice to numb the treatment area and minimize swelling before and after lip injections are administered.
Your Recovery & Results
Lip enhancement using dermal fillers may produce temporary side effects such as mild bruising, swelling or redness. This should resolve within 1 to 2 weeks. There is no downtime associated with lip enhancement and you can return to your normal routine immediately following your appointment. However, you should avoid strenuous activity in the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
Lip enhancement results with JUVÉDERM® should last about 4 to 9 months.
