Clearer, Healthier Skin Without the Hassle

At Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery, we use the ICON™ Aesthetic Laser System to restore your skin’s clarity and even tone, giving you a brighter, more confident glow. IPL is a great option for dealing with sun damage, rosacea, visible veins, or lingering discoloration. It’s safe for the face, chest, neck, hands, and anywhere sun damage shows up. Most people see visible results in just 1–3 treatments, with little to no downtime. Your skin might look slightly flushed afterward, but that’s about it. A few days later, dark spots lift away, and the skin looks more even and luminous.

What Is IPL?

IPL, sometimes called a photofacial, uses quick pulses of light energy to target pigment in the skin—like sunspots, redness, and visible vessels—without harming the surrounding tissue. The ICON system we use in our Houston and Cypress offices is known for being one of the most precise and effective IPL technologies out there.

Here’s how it works: the light energy is absorbed by the pigment or blood vessels under the skin, breaking them up so your body can naturally eliminate them. At the same time, IPL stimulates collagen production, helping improve skin tone and texture from the inside out.

What Can IPL Treat?

IPL can make a big difference if you’re dealing with any of the following:

  • Sunspots or freckles
  • Redness, rosacea, or broken capillaries
  • Uneven skin tone or dullness
  • Fine lines and large pores
  • Lingering redness from acne or irritation

It’s gentle, effective, and works on many areas of the body—not just the face.

Who’s a Good Candidate for IPL?

IPL works best for people with lighter skin tones dealing with sun damage, brown spots, visible blood vessels, or redness. If your skin is tan or deeper in tone, we may recommend another approach—like a chemical peel or laser resurfacing—for the best and safest results.

IPL isn’t a good fit if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, have active infections or skin conditions, or have taken Accutane within the past six months. But don’t worry—we’ll go over all of this in your consultation.

What Happens During IPL Treatment?

We’ll start by cleansing your skin and applying a cool gel. You’ll wear protective glasses while we treat your skin with the ICON handheld device. The pulses feel like quick little snaps—kind of like a rubber band.

It’s not painful, but some areas (like around the nose) can feel more sensitive. A typical session takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on the area. Once we’re done, we’ll apply a soothing serum and SPF, so you leave feeling refreshed and protected.

What’s Recovery Like?

There’s no downtime with IPL. You can go right back to your day, but your skin might look pink or flushed for a few hours. Over the next few days, dark spots might look a little darker before they flake off—that’s normal and actually a sign the treatment is working. Depending on the area treated, you’ll see visible improvements within 5 to 10 days. We usually recommend a series of up to 3 treatments spaced a few weeks apart for full results.

How Long Do IPL Results Last?

Results from IPL can last for years—especially if you’re taking care of your skin with sunscreen and great products. Many people return for maintenance treatments every year to keep their skin looking its best.
