Liposuction Plastic Surgery In Houston
For patients with stubborn localized fat deposits, liposuction is the best way to permanently reduce fat in a variety of areas to create smoother, firmer body contours. Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Bob Basu performs liposuction procedures to help you realize a slimmer silhouette.
Who is a good candidate for liposuction?
Liposuction can be used to fine-tune the body, removing fat from problem areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. Houston cosmetic surgeon Dr. Bob Basu performs liposuction on many parts of the body, including the buttocks, thighs, legs, arms, back, hips, tummy or abdominal area and around the face.
Patients who are nonsmokers at a stable body weight may be ideal for liposuction. To ensure a great result, good skin elasticity is also key.
Unlike dieting, fat removal through liposuction is permanent because it actually removes fat cells from the body. Liposuction is not a weight loss method, and following a healthy diet and exercise program is still important after your procedure to maintain your results.
What is involved in liposuction?
Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Basu will discuss your concerns with you and explain the details of liposuction cosmetic surgery during your consultation. There are a number of options to consider, including whether other procedures, such as tummy tuck or breast augmentation, should be performed at the same time. Dr. Basu will work with you to
determine a surgical plan that best suits your needs to create the results that you hope for.
Though surgeries can vary greatly depending on your needs, for smaller fat removal procedures, you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation. The procedure may last as little as 45 minutes. If you undergo a more extensive liposuction procedure, it could last two hours or more and you will be given a general anesthetic.
When he begins your liposuction treatment, Dr. Basu will make one or more small incisions at the site to be treated. Through these incisions he will insert a thin tube called a cannula. In some cases, a tumescent solution may also be injected. This solution makes the fat cells easier to remove and works as an anesthetic. When inserted, the cannula will
be used to suction out the excess fat cells. Dr. Basu will take care to ensure aesthetically pleasing contours. When finished, Dr. Basu will close the incisions with sutures and apply a dressing and surgical tape.
What are the recovery steps?
As you recover from your liposuction procedure, you will experience swelling and some discomfort, which will be managed with medication. You will also wear a compression garment at this time to maintain the new contours of your body. After a week or so, Dr. Basu will remove the sutures. You will need to limit your activity during the initial recovery period, but Dr. Basu will ask you to ambulate within 24 hours after surgery.
