Earlobe Surgery Houston

Earlobe surgery corrects sagging earlobes (earlobe ptosis) by removing excess skin from your ears. Whether your earlobes are torn and stretched from piercings, a traumatic injury, or genetics, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Sarcia at Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery has extensive experience performing earlobe reconstruction on loose, droopy, and dangling earlobes in children and adults.

ABOUT EARLOBE SURGERY

Unlike other cosmetic procedures, the goal of earlobe reconstruction surgery is to normalize the appearance of your earlobes, rather than draw attention to them. Our skilled surgeons perform earlobe surgery by making tiny incisions inside of or behind your ears to create a completely natural, balanced appearance. Small sutures may be applied and left in place until your earlobes have fully healed.

How long does earlobe surgery take?

Earlobe reconstruction typically takes 15 minutes to an hour.

What kind of anesthesia is used for earlobe surgery?

We typically perform earlobe surgery under local anesthesia, but may use general anesthesia depending on the extent of your sagging or tear, and your age.

RECOVERY FROM EARLOBE SURGERY

Recovery from earlobe reconstruction surgery is very minimal compared to other surgeries, however, your recovery will depend on the extent of your earlobe ptosis and whether you choose to add any accompanying procedures, such as a facelift. Generally speaking, you may engage in light activity the day after your surgery and return to your normal activity level after 1 to 2 weeks. You should allow 4 to 6 weeks to see the full results of your procedure. Be sure to wear sunscreen and keep your earlobes out of direct sunlight following your surgery to ensure proper healing. Once your earlobes have fully healed, you will need to return to our office to have any sutures removed.

CAN I PIERCE MY EARS AGAIN AFTER EARLOBE SURGERY?

Yes, you can safely pierce your ears again within 2 to 6 months after your earlobe surgery. We recommend getting your new piercing to the side of or above your scar to avoid risking a future tear.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR EARLOBE SURGERY?

You may benefit from earlobe repair if you:

  • Are a child or adult suffering from sagging or torn earlobes
  • Lack self-confidence due to the appearance of your earlobes
  • Are generally healthy and are a non-smoker
  • Want to correct scarring on your earlobes
  • Want to correct “pixie ears,” either due to genetics or a previous facelift surgery

Our board-certified plastic surgeons at Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery can help you decide if earlobe surgery is right for you.
