Why Consider Liposuction?
As one of the top cosmetic surgeries performed nationwide, liposuction can be helpful for many people who wish to achieve a fitter look. Some of the reasons people consider liposuction include:
- Stubborn areas like the love handles or thighs don’t slim down despite diet and exercise
- Hereditary features like a double chin or “cankles”prevent a sense of confidence about your appearance
- A muffin top or other problem spot prevents clothes from fitting comfortably
- Inner thighs chafe as a result of persistent fat
Liposuction can be applied virtually anywhere on the body, so if you have an area of concern that is not listed here, it’s very likely that Dr. Basu can help. Many people include liposuction with procedures like a tummy tuck or as part of a mommy makeover. Liposuction can also be a beautiful complement to a healthy lifestyle by improving stubborn problem spots.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
The exact costs of liposuction vary depending on the size of the treatment area(s) and whether you are combining lipo with any other procedures. Your total costs will be inclusive of facility and anesthesia fees, as well as your pre-op and post-op appointments.
At Basu Plastic Surgery, we offer frequent special promotions for a variety of cosmetic procedures. We also connect men and women with plastic surgery financing options to help make their procedure as affordable as possible.
Your Liposuction Options
Once you’ve made the decision to move forward with body contouring with liposuction, you can consider your procedure options.
The main choice to make is which area(s) of the body you would like to have treated. While most people can name their personal problem areas, Dr. Basu can help you determine in your consultation whether these spots can indeed benefit from liposuction or whether some additional time to reach your target weight may be necessary. It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a weight loss alternative, and is best for areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
You can also consider whether to combine liposuction with any additional body contouring. While lipo can create beautiful results as a standalone procedure, many people like to get the most out of their results by combining lipo with other procedures. For people interested in a non-surgical alternative to liposuction, CoolSculpting® can be a good option as well.
Liposuction Techniques & Technologies
Dr. Basu talks about the different types of liposuction available from Basu Plastic Surgery that can help you achieve your cosmetic goals.
Your Liposuction Surgery
Dr. Basu will discuss your concerns with you and explain the details of liposuction during your consultation. He’ll work with you to determine a surgical plan that best suits your needs to achieve your aesthetic goals.
The techniques Dr. Basu uses during liposuction can vary depending on the individual’s needs. For smaller fat removal procedures, you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation. The procedure may last as little as 45 minutes. If you undergo more extensive liposuction, your surgery will likely take place using general anesthesia and could last 2 hours or more.
Dr. Basu will make one or more small incisions in and around the treatment area. Through these incisions, he will insert a thin tube called a cannula after injecting a tumescent solution. This solution makes the fat cells easier to remove and works as an additional anesthetic. When inserted, the cannula will be used to suction out excess fat cells.
Dr. Basu takes special care to create aesthetically pleasing contours that complement the natural shape of your body. When finished, Dr. Basu will close the incisions with sutures and apply a dressing and surgical tape.
Your Recovery & Results
As you recover from your liposuction procedure, you will likely experience some swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with medication. Dr. Basu will ask you to wear a compression garment during this time. This will help both to minimize swelling and to maintain the new contours of your body. You will need to limit your activity during the initial recovery period, although some light walking during the first 24 hours of your recovery is important to stimulate blood circulation and your body’s natural healing process.
